Information for applicants
Thanks for your interest in the Lewison lab. Although my lab is quite full, I am always on the lookout for strong Masters and Ph.D. candidates. For more information on the graduate programs in Ecology at SDSU visit SDSU Ecology. Our Ph.D. program is run jointly with UCDavis and students in the program spend their second year in residence at Davis.
Current students in the lab are engaged in a range of research projects that focus on different taxa but all consider the impact of resource and land use on vulnerable wildlife populations. For more information, visit Research Projects.
If you are interested in learning more or would like to apply for admission to the Masters or Joint Doctoral Program, please:
A few final thoughts: Applying to graduate school is a challenging process, in part because it's hard for people to learn who you are by email or phone. Contacting major advisors directly is a critical aspect of the process. Conveying your research interests is another. While it's expected that your graduate research will likely look different (and in some cases totally different) than the research interests you express during the application process, it is extremely important that you show that you can articulate and formulate research ideas and concepts. Giving a general statement that you are interested in conservation (while commendable) doesn't advance that process. Try to articulate what interests you about conservation in particular. This will give you an opportunity to demonstrate that you understand the process of identifying a research area of interest and potential ways of tackling that research topic.
**Extra tips from experienced graduate students: Do not bring a V8 juice or microwave popcorn to a meeting with Dr. Lewison**

If you are interested in learning more or would like to apply for admission to the Masters or Joint Doctoral Program, please:
- Spend some time on the Ecology website to learn more about the graduate programs at SDSU
- Contact students in the Lewison lab to learn the basics about the program and the lab
- If you like what you hear, contact me by email ([email protected]) and send me your CV, and a description of your research interests. The more detailed you can be, the better. IF YOU ARE SENDING ATTACHMENTS, PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR LAST NAME AS PART OF THE TITLE. Sending a file entitled "CV.doc" or "research statement.doc" is a guarantee that it will be lost in my attachments folder
- You are welcome to contact me, but please do not leave a phone message - emails only.
