Research Interests
I have spent several years working as a wildlife technician in the Sierra Nevadas with Spotted Owls on a long-term demographic study. The occupancy and population data we collected directly informed landscape level management decisions and forestry practices. My work with spotted owls sparked my interest in using mapping tools to better understand wildlife population dynamics for use in conservation efforts.
For my Master's thesis I am working with the California Department of Fish & Wildlife to conduct habitat analyses in San Diego County to better understand the home range and health of Southern Mule Deer. I am assessing both intrinsic (body weight, sex, age, reproductive status) and extrinsic factors (habitat, season, water availability, urbanization levels) of the Southern Mule Deer to account for variations in home range size and location as well as to determine if these factors may have an influence on hemorrhagic disease exposure for the San Diego County Deer populations.
